Almira “Mrya” Pease, 104, of Sumner, died Sunday, September 15, 2013, at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 20, 2013, at the United Methodist Church in Sumner, Iowa with Rev. Michael Christie officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Fayette. Friends may call from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 19 2013, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Friday. Memorials may be made in her name to either the United Methodist Church or Hillcrest Home, both in Sumner.
Almira “Myra” Pease, of Sumner, Iowa was the daughter of the Rev. Paul Prentice Pease and Gertrude Helen Horsfall Pease. She was born in St. Ansgar, Iowa on November 29, 1908. She spent the last several years of her life at Hillcrest Home in Sumner. Myra graduated from High School at Lime Springs. She was a graduate of Upper Iowa University in 1931.
She taught school at a number of northeastern Iowa schools. She taught high school at Readlyn and Tripoli among others. After her father’s death she taught for seven years in country schools around Sumner so she could be at home with her mother. After her mother’s death she taught two years in an Amish school. She concluded her teaching career at Lamont and Dundee. She was well loved by her students and was always willing to spend extra time with those that needed extra help.
She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist church.
She is survived by nieces, Patience L. Brock (Mrs. Larry) of Ellamore, WV and Gertrude “Trudy” C. Kincade (Mrs. Charles) of Little Rock, AR and great niece, Alaina Milford of Little Rock, AR and great nephew Ronald E. Milford of Indianapolis, IN.
